How to Play Pictionary Online with Friends (Free, No Sign-Up)
You don't need a board, an easel or even to be in the same city to play Pictionary. With a browser-based drawing game, one person draws on their screen, everyone else sees it live and races to guess the word in the chat. Here's how to set up a game in under two minutes.
What you need
- At least 2 players (a game is most fun with 4–8).
- Any phone, tablet or computer with a modern browser. Drawing with a finger works fine; a mouse or stylus is a bonus.
- A way to share a link — WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, Slack, or the chat in your video call.
That's it. There's nothing to download and nobody needs an account.
Step by step: start a game on Drawdle
- Open drawdle.co and type a nickname.
- Click "Create private room". You'll get a 6-letter room code and an invite link.
- Share the invite link. Friends who open it land straight in your room — they only type their name.
- Pick your settings. As the room owner you choose 2–10 rounds and 30–180 seconds per drawing. For a first game, 3 rounds of 80 seconds is a good start.
- Press "Start game". Each turn, the drawer chooses one of three words. Everyone else sees blank dashes showing the word's length.
- Draw and guess. Guessers type answers in the chat. A correct guess is hidden from the others, and you'll see a "close!" hint if you're one letter off. Letters are revealed at half and three-quarter time to keep things moving.
Faster guesses earn more points, and the drawer scores for every person who gets it. After the last round, the top three take the podium — and "Play again" sends everyone back to the lobby for a rematch.
Playing over a video call
Online drawing games are perfect for Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams hangouts:
- Drop the invite link into the meeting chat and have everyone open it in a browser tab next to the call, rather than screen-sharing — that way everyone draws and guesses on their own screen.
- Keep microphones on for the fun of it, but agree that guesses only count when typed.

Playing on phones
Drawdle is built mobile-first: the canvas sits at the top of the screen, with chat and the scoreboard in tabs below. Hold the phone upright, draw with your finger and keep strokes large — small details are hard to see on other people's screens. If your connection drops, just reopen the link; you'll rejoin the same seat with your score intact.
House rules that make online games better
- No letters or numbers in drawings — it's the one rule every version of the game shares. (See the full Pictionary rules.)
- Undo is your friend. A wrong stroke is easier to undo than to explain.
- Use the fill bucket for big areas like sky, sea or grass — it's faster than scribbling.
- Change the difficulty by picking the hardest of your three word choices once everyone is warmed up.
